Role Model, known for hits like “blind” and “forever&more,” has officially released his sophomore album Kansas Anymore via Interscope Records.
The project, which follows his debut album, Rx, released back in 2022, features 13 songs, including singles “Look At That Woman,” “Oh Gemini,” and fan-favorite “Deeply Still In Love.”
Although listeners haven’t heard much new music from Role Model since Rx, he was sure to fill them in on what they’ve missed on Kansas Anymore. The album takes listeners through the emotional journey of having to move on after a difficult break-up. Through each song, it’s clear that the “Deeply Still In Love” singer can’t seem to wrap his head around having to move on.
While Rx captured the excitement of a new relationship and falling in love, Kansas Anymore conversely captures the downfall of a seemingly complicated relationship. Fans are introduced to a new sound from Role Model that has undeniably matured both sonically and lyrically since the release of his first album. He’s a bit more experimental when it comes to genre this time around while effortlessly embracing a whole new era of life.
Kansas Anymore kicks off with “Writing’s On The Wall” as Role Model contemplates why he can’t seem to fall out of love with a woman who never treated him right. He continues to try to readjust to life as a single man after he had become so comfortable sharing his life with someone else.
Role Model makes it clear through multiple songs, especially “Oh Gemini,” that his former relationship was anything but perfect – but that doesn’t make rediscovering who he is without his former lover any easier. As he openly navigates meeting new people and one-night stands on “Slut Era Interlude,” it becomes evident that the singer was overwhelmed with loneliness.
“So Far Gone,” the only collaboration on Kansas Anymore which features Lizzy McAlpine, continues to explore the feeling of a dark loneliness that leads to drinking to numb the pain. Listeners are clued in on the internal conflict Role Model is facing that doesn’t seem to resolve even at the end of the album. The final track, “Something, Somehow, Someday,” ventures into the thought of two people who don’t seem to be a perfect match on paper exploring a relationship that seems destined to fail, but the hopelessly romantic singer seems to think otherwise.
This project marks the closing chapter of a relationship that presumably wasn’t meant to be. It also kicks off a new journey for Role Model as an artist rediscovering himself.
Fans can look forward to seeing Role Model on the road when he opens up for Gracie Abrams this fall in cities across North America.
